Archaeopteryx, the clade's type species

Archaeopterygidae is an extinct clade of bird-like maniraptoran theropods that lived in the Late Jurassic Period, in what is now Germany.

This clade includes only two genus, characterized by small forms, with three-fingered hands, short tails, long S-shaped neck and a small head, with big eyes. They also had a very specialized covering, composed by many type of feathers.
